David Chard of Chard Development Ltd on recent projects in Victoria, including "The Sovereign"

Mike Takas introduced our speaker David Chard from Chard Development .

David is the founding Principal of Chard Development Ltd. and has had extensive experience with real estate negotiations and development projects over the past 35 years in the retail, office and residential development sectors across Canada.

He spoke to members about some of the developments in Victoria.

Chard is intimately involved in the revitalization of Victoria's downtown with three major projects completed and three more at various stages of development.

They see Victoria as both dynamic and serene, the perfect combination of intimacy and vitality. With a core of government, tourism and technology employment we believe this temperate and beautiful provincial capital has the potential to be a magnet for a sophisticated international community of people who understand that there is no better place to live than a downtown that’s never lost touch with nature or history, where world-class food, art and design are creating modern culture, and satisfaction of every sort is just a stroll away.Chard, David

The Sovereign, located at 608 Broughton Street, is a landmark development site in the historic center of Old Town Victoria just blocks from the Inner Harbour, Empress Hotel, seaplane terminal and steps from Government Street. Chard Development acquired the site in 2008 and received a development permit in Spring 2009. A new development permit was granted in April 2010 and construction is now underway by Farmer Construction for a planned Summer 2013 completion. The project features 36 boutique suites with contemporary and rich interior design, individual suite heat-pump/air conditioning and premium appliances and fixtures and is now 50% sold.
