"I love Victoria and especially James Bay. It has taken me five years to figure out a way to settle here and I’ve finally done it! I was born in rural Ontario but left home at 8 years old to live and study at the National Ballet School of Canada. I never went back home and have been travelling ever since.

I first moved to Victoria to complete my Ph.D. in Art History at UVic, and I taught Art History and Medieval Studies there for several years. If you are interested in old books, you can visit the UVic Library and see Codex Kemp, a sixteenth-century manuscript named in my honour.  Eventually I moved to Squamish to serve as Professor of Arts & Humanities, and then as Chief Academic Officer at Quest University Canada. My favourite part of that job was leading travel courses across Europe.

My big dream would be to spend most of my time touring people around and showing them what is good to eat, drink, and otherwise appreciate.

Most recently, I’ve taken on a new role as Academic Dean at Pacific Design Academy on Wharf Street. I’m happy to be here in this beautiful city with my partner, Jim, and my golden retriever, No, No, Nanette (a.k.a. Nan). "

We will also be having a brief overview on the Ukrainian situation from our own member Halyna Tataryn and Devon Goldie, President, Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Victoria Branch.
